How to get there

Directions to IMBA

IMBA is located in the 3rd district of Vienna. The map shows the location of IMBA with respect to the general city layout, the airport, train stations and major highways.

  • Arriving by Airplane

Vienna's International Airport is located about 19 kilometers southeast of IMBA and is connected by rail, bus and a freeway.

There are multiple connections from the Airport to the city.

    Public transportation:

    Trains:

We recommend to take the metropolitan railway "S7" (= line No. 907 WIEN FLORIDSDORF – FLUGHAFEN WIEN – WOLFSTHAL and back) which usually runs every 30 minutes and takes 19 minutes to arrive at IMBA. The "S-Bahn" stops at "St. Marx/Vienna Biocenter" which is just 100m from IMBA. You can buy tickets from the vending machine at the platform.

The CAT (City Airport Train) is faster but more expensive. It only stops downtown at "Wien Mitte" so a second connection is required to get to IMBA (take the 74A bus to the stop "St. Marx").

    Busses:

You also have the option to take a bus from the Airport. Buses stop at several locations throughout the city and are run by different companies like ÖBB or FlixBus. To get to IMBA, choose a bus running to "Erdberg" and take the U3 to "Schlachthausgasse" (just one stop). From there it's only 5 minutes by tram (line No. 18) to "St. Marx".

Some companies also offer busses from Bratislava Airport to Vienna. The ride from there takes about an hour, depending on time of day and traffic.

    Taxi:

If you catch a taxi from the airport to IMBA, the ride takes about 20 minutes.

    Arriving by Train

You will most probably arrive either at the Train Station "Wien Meidling" or at the Vienna Western Train Station - "Westbahnhof".

From "Meidling", take the metropolitan railway S1 (direction "Gänserndorf"), S2 (direction "Mistelbach/Zaya"), S3 (direction "Hollabrunn") to the station "Rennweg" or S5 (direction "Absdorf/Hippersdorf"). From there, the No.71 tram (direction "Zinnergasse/Kaiserebersdorfer Straße") takes you to the stop "St. Marx" right next to IMBA. The whole ride takes about 20 minutes.

Also from "Westbahnhof", the No.18 tram (direction "Schlachthausgasse") takes you to IMBA (stop "St. Marx"). The traveling time here is about 25 minutes.

Alternatively, take the subway U3 from the "Westbahnhof" to "Schlachthausgasse" (direction "Simmering"), subways leave every 3-5 minutes during the day. From "Schlachthausgasse", IMBA is only a 5 minute walk, or 2 stations with the No.18 tram ("direction Burggasse/Stadthalle").

More information on public transport in Vienna can be found on the Website of the Wiener Linien.

    Arriving by Car

If you arrive via the freeway A23, take the exit "St. Marx". Drivers coming via the A4 should exit at "Knoten Prater".
In the 3rd district, where IMBA is located, parking during the day (Monday to Friday, 9 a.m.-10 p.m.) is only possible with prepaid tickets (can be purchased at the tobacconist's) and restricted to 2 hours at a time.
